Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
1. What is a CSA and how does it work?
CSA stands for Community-Supported Agriculture. When you join our CSA program, you commit to receiving a share of our farm’s produce for the entire season. In return, we plan our planting and harvesting around our subscribers, ensuring you get a weekly box of fresh, seasonal produce straight from our farm to your table.
2. When does the CSA season run and how much does it cost?
- Season Dates: Mid-June to mid-September (13 weeks total).
- Cost: Currently on sale for the early-bird price of $45 per box, or $585 for the full 13-week season. This is a one-time upfront fee that secures your spot for the entire program.
3. Is delivery available, and how much does it cost?
Yes! We offer optional delivery for an additional $10 per week, depending on your location. This fee covers extra logistics, fuel, and handling to ensure your produce arrives safely and fresh at your doorstep. If you prefer to pick up your box at no extra cost, refer to our pickup locations listed below.
4. Where can I pick up my CSA box?
We will have several convenient pickup locations across the CRD, to be updated soon. If you have a pickup location you would like to suggest or offer, please let us know at nettlebrookfarm@gmail.com.
5. What if I can’t pick up my CSA box one week?
We understand schedules can change. If you’re unable to pick up your box:
- Arrange for a friend or family member to pick it up on your behalf.
- Contact us at least 48 hours in advance, and we’ll do our best to find an alternative (e.g., donating your box to a local charity).
Please note we cannot offer refunds for missed boxes.
6. What types of produce can I expect in my box?
Our weekly boxes feature a diverse range of seasonal produce, including:
- Specialties: Carrots and garlic
- Seasonal Staples: Beets, salad mix, kale, chard, leeks, potatoes, cherry tomatoes, beans, peas, corn, squash, zucchini, onions
Each week’s selection may vary based on what’s in season and thriving on the farm.
7. Do you accommodate allergies or preferences?
We can accommodate allergy-related requests to the best of our ability—please let us know during sign-up.
However, due to the nature of a CSA, we are unable to offer full customizations for individual preferences (e.g., “no onions” if it’s not an allergy). We do strive to include a wide variety of produce everyone can enjoy.
8. How should I store or use my produce?
We will provide a Storage Tips Guide (digital and printable) with best practices for keeping your produce fresh. You’ll also receive weekly recipe ideas to help you make the most of your box contents. Feel free to experiment—seasonal eating is all about creativity!
9. Can I purchase add-ons (like eggs, bread, or flowers)?
Currently, we do not offer add-ons, but we’re exploring the possibility of adding items like eggs, bread, or flowers in the future. Stay tuned and feel free to let us know if this interests you.
10. What is your refund or cancellation policy?
- Before the Season Starts: We offer a partial refund (less a $50 administrative fee) if you need to cancel before the first delivery.
- During the Season: We do not offer refunds once the 13-week season begins, as our planting and harvesting schedules are planned around committed subscribers.
11. How do I sign up and pay?
- Sign Up Online: Visit our CSA sign-up page to complete checkout (one-time upfront payment).
- Payment Methods: We accept major credit cards via Shopify Payments, and PayPal if you prefer.
- Confirmation: You’ll receive an immediate confirmation email outlining next steps and key dates.
12. What happens in bad weather or other disruptions?
Farming is closely tied to the weather and other unforeseen circumstances. If severe weather or other challenges force schedule changes, we’ll notify you as soon as possible. We appreciate your patience and understanding if delays or adjustments occur.
